3 ways to cook steam rice without a rice cooker | Instant pot, cast iron dutch oven, steamer
Hi guys,
I'd like to show you 3 ways to cook perfect steamed rice without a rice cooker. This prepare the perfect rice for fired rice or with stir fired dishes. You know it's never good to make fried rice with mushy rice, or the one with hard core. I'm gonna use instant pot, cast iron dutch oven, and a steamer. I'd like to keep the water to rice ratio simple, easy to remember. The key is to SOAK the rice for 15 min before cooking.
Here's a quick summary of the ratio for each way:
Instant pot: soak rice for 15 min, rice to water ratio is 1:1.
Cast iron dutch oven: soak rice for 15 min, rice to water ratio is 1: 1.5 (water)
Steamer: soak rice for 15 min, rice to water ratio is 1: 1.5 (HOT water)
Use the steamer to cook rice is kind of a traditional way that Chinese cook the rice.
* If you like the SOFT rice to eat with stir fried dishes, you could generally add half cup water for each cup of rice :)

    Before refined oil and all purpose flour came, chinese people used which cold pressed oil and flour to chowmein and noodles? And also which flavouring agent was used instead of msg and ajinomoto?     I finally made this tonight. Came out tasting fantastic. I'm new to carbon steel woks though so even following this directly, I still managed to get some of the noodles sticking to the bottom...especially after I added the sauce. I may not have allowed them to dry enough though before adding the oil. Still came out wonderfully overall though and with time, I'll get better with the wok.

    Tom, you need a mic for your introduction, the audio is poor. Otherwise looked at your videos, very simple to follow recipe. Love Mapo dofu! SImple, flavorful and delicius. My version uses Oystersauce and a drizzle of Toasted seseme oil at the end.
